MyAEW may be growing, but Tony Khan can’t just throw whatever he wants onto the platform. If AEW’s library—or ROH’s—ever lands there, Warner Bros. Discovery will have a say first.
During the AEW All In media call, Khan was asked whether MyAEW could eventually become the home of the AEW and ROH tape libraries. Khan explained that anything AEW adds to the platform would require approval from Warner Bros. Discovery.
That makes the situation a little more complicated than simply deciding to upload years of old Dynamite, Collision or ROH content. Khan also pointed to AEW’s current relationship with WBD and said things are going well. According to Khan, Dynamite and Collision are both up year-over-year, while AEW has also been performing well on HBO Max.
The comments are particularly interesting because MyAEW has been expanding beyond just AEW content. United Wrestling Network, Metroplex Wrestling, Pro-Wrestling EVE, Revolution Pro Wrestling, Westside Xtreme Wrestling and AML/WrestleCade Entertainment have all joined the service. Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling has also brought MLP Mayhem to the platform.
That expansion has already caught Vince Russo’s attention. Russo recently revealed that if JCW can’t land its own streaming deal, he plans on potentially approaching Khan about getting the promotion onto MyAEW. GCW has also held discussions with AEW about potentially joining the platform, although nothing has been finalized there either.
So MyAEW is clearly getting bigger, but Khan’s comments establish an important limit on just how far AEW can take it on its own. When it comes to putting additional AEW or ROH material on the service, WBD apparently needs to sign off first.
