Vince Russo may be looking towards Tony Khan if JCW’s search for a streaming home doesn’t work out. His backup plan is pretty simple: try to get the promotion onto MyAEW.
While speaking with Ben Veal, Russo revealed that he would be willing to approach Khan about bringing JCW to AEW’s growing streaming platform if the promotion fails to land a separate streaming deal.
“I think I can get JCW on that app. If JCW doesn’t get a streaming deal, I’m going to talk to Tony about trying to get on that app.”
Russo isn’t planning on making that call immediately. JCW currently has people trying to sell the show elsewhere, but Russo believes the summer months are a difficult time to secure television deals. If nothing materializes once those efforts ramp up again in September, that’s when he intends to potentially approach Khan.
“It’s going to be the—you know, we’ve got guys selling the show, bro, but you’re not going to sell shows during the summer. That’s just how TV is. It’s not going to happen. But, you know, come September, they’re going to really go hard. If they don’t get anything for us, I definitely am going to try to have a conversation with Tony. So, I don’t know why he wouldn’t do that. I think that’s a no-brainer.”
MyAEW has certainly been opening its doors to wrestling outside AEW. United Wrestling Network, Metroplex Wrestling, Pro-Wrestling EVE, Revolution Pro Wrestling, Westside Xtreme Wrestling and AML/WrestleCade Entertainment have all joined the platform, while Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling brought MLP Mayhem to the service in July.
GCW owner Brett Lauderdale has also confirmed having discussions with AEW about potentially bringing his promotion to MyAEW, although nothing has been finalized. So, that growing lineup is part of why JCW entering the picture doesn’t seem completely out of place.
The interviewer also raised the financial side of joining MyAEW, and that’s one thing Russo made clear would have to make sense before anything happened.
“Yeah. No, I’m—yeah, you would just have to see what the financials are. You know, how are you going to benefit? Are you going to make any money? I mean, those are the things you’d have to look at.”
There’s no indication Russo has actually spoken with the AEW President about JCW yet, and the promotion is still pursuing other streaming opportunities first. If those talks don’t produce anything by the time the push picks up again in September, though, Russo already knows whose door he wants to knock on.
