The Wyatt Sicks have been gone from WWE since April, but they may not stay scattered for much longer. Months after TNA first came up as a possible landing spot, the company is now reportedly making a serious play for multiple members of the group.
The Takedown on SI reported on September 15 that TNA has expressed “serious interest” in bringing in several former Wyatt Sicks members. The important part is that interest hasn’t turned into a confirmed signing yet.
“The Takedown on SI has learned that TNA Wrestling has expressed serious interest in bringing in multiple members of the Wyatt Sicks, but we have not been able to confirm at this time whether a deal has been reached with any of the five former WWE Superstars.”
Who exactly TNA wants is still being kept pretty close to the vest. Taylor Rotunda, Joseph Sawyer, Samuel Shaw and Erick Redbeard, better known in WWE as Uncle Howdy, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis and Erick Rowan, were all mentioned as possibilities.
“It’s also not clear which members specifically are in play for a potential debut with the company, but some combination of Taylor Rotunda, Joseph Sawyer, Samuel Shaw, and Erick Redbeard, formerly known as Uncle Howdy, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis and Erick Rowan, respectively, would provide an instant boost to the TNA tag team division.”
That leaves a couple of big questions hanging. There’s no word on which combination TNA is looking at, and the report doesn’t establish that the Wyatt Sicks would simply be recreated exactly as they were in WWE.
Nikki Cross was the fifth member of the faction when WWE released the entire group on April 24 following WrestleMania 42. Her name wasn’t included among the four specifically mentioned as potential additions to TNA’s tag team division.
TNA being interested shouldn’t come completely out of nowhere either. As first reported back in May, the promotion was already part of the conversation surrounding the Wyatt Sicks after their WWE exits. Sean Ross Sapp said at the time that people he had spoken with in TNA actually thought AEW could be where the group landed. He disagreed with that expectation and instead believed they were more likely to work across places such as the independent scene, TNA and MLW.
“People I talk to in TNA seem to think that Wyatt Sicks would end up in AEW. They’re not going to AEW. I think they actually end up doing indie stuff together, TNA, MLW, and that.”
Nothing is signed as far as the latest report could confirm, so there’s still some distance between interest and seeing former Wyatt Sicks members walk onto TNA television. The interesting part now is that TNA apparently isn’t looking at just one familiar face. It could be trying to bring several of them through the door together.
