Thekla put Mercedes Moné on notice during the September 2 episode of AEW Dynamite. The Toxic Spider crashed Moné’s AEW Women’s World Championship celebration and made it clear that she wants the title.
AEW decorated the ring with balloons, a red carpet and photographs of Moné following her championship victory at All In: London. Moné talked about taking a chance on herself by coming to AEW and proving that nobody needs permission to be great. She also celebrated becoming a world champion in four major wrestling companies.
The new champion then turned her attention toward Willow Nightingale. Moné admitted that she was still angry about what Nightingale did to her face but claimed her rival had only pushed her closer to her destiny.
Moné bragged that she took Nightingale’s championship and wiped the smile off her face. Before she could continue celebrating, Thekla interrupted and walked to the ring carrying tequila. Thekla claimed she wanted to join the celebration, but the friendly act didn’t last long.
Thekla acknowledged Moné’s list of accomplishments before pointing out that she had never been “Toxic.” She then mocked Nightingale for losing at All In and said she deserved to be humiliated.
Things became personal when Thekla brought up Moné’s habit of swinging her championships between her legs. Thekla claimed nobody swings it bigger than her before reminding Moné that she doesn’t work for “The CEO.” Thekla also fired back at Moné for calling other women “dumb bitches.” She said the only thing she hates more than dumb bitches is a dumb bitch calling someone else a dumb bitch. Thekla ended the confrontation by telling Moné to let her know when she was ready to give her back her championship.
Moné entered Dynamite expecting the night to revolve around her accomplishment, but Thekla hijacked the celebration and walked away after staking her claim to the AEW Women’s World Championship. The CEO has her first serious threat—and Thekla isn’t asking for permission to come after the belt.
