Tessa Blanchard has a new match locked in for September 12 — and it’s a big one.
Blanchard is now advertised to face STARDOM star Starlight Kid for CMLL in Mexico on September 12, giving her a high-profile singles match against one of the most recognizable names on the STARDOM roster. The booking immediately stands out because Blanchard has been working regularly with CMLL and has continued to make Mexico a major part of her wrestling schedule.
Starlight Kid brings plenty of name value of her own. The masked STARDOM standout has built a reputation as one of the promotion’s most distinctive performers, and putting her across the ring from Blanchard gives CMLL a match with a legitimate international feel. For Blanchard, the bout adds another notable opponent to her recent run and keeps her firmly involved in the CMLL mix.
Blanchard has made no secret about wanting to work at a high level wherever she goes. During a recent interview with Inside the Ring, she spoke about wanting to help build women’s wrestling around herself and elevate the championships she competes for.
“What’s been missing from MLW is a franchise, a name that the division is built around. This division was built, and now the franchise… well, I’m here. That’s exactly why I’m here. Every step of this division’s growth has been leading to this.”
She also made it clear that she still sees herself as capable of carrying a women’s division at the highest level.
“My goal is to make the MLW Women’s World Title the #1 women’s title in wrestling. I’m more than capable of doing it. I’ve gone against some of the biggest names in pro wrestling. I joined this to define and build the division. Coming to MLW is a great business decision, but it’s also a decision for my happiness and to have fun.”
Blanchard previously explained why she was making moves following her TNA exit, but this latest booking puts the immediate focus right back on CMLL. A singles match with Starlight Kid gives Blanchard exactly the kind of opponent that can draw attention from fans across multiple promotions, especially with STARDOM and CMLL audiences both watching closely.
September 12 is now shaping up to be a major night for Blanchard, and facing Starlight Kid gives her another chance to prove she can still hang with some of the best women in wrestling today.
