Tessa Blanchard has made it clear why she chose MLW. She doesn’t just want to join its women’s division. She wants to become the name that division is built around.
Speaking to Inside the Ring, Blanchard explained that she had been paying attention to MLW from Mexico long before making the move. She believes the promotion already has the talent and depth, but there was one major piece missing.
“I think MLW’s women’s division is one of the best-kept secrets in wrestling. They always have great matches, great workers, and depth. I’ve been watching here from Mexico. I pay attention to all of our alliances like AEW, NJPW, STARDOM, and MLW.”
Blanchard doesn’t think MLW needs someone to come in and create a women’s division from scratch. In her eyes, the foundation is already there. What it needed was a franchise star, and she believes that’s exactly what she brings.
“What’s been missing from MLW is a franchise, a name that the division is built around. This division was built, and now the franchise… well, I’m here. That’s exactly why I’m here. Every step of this division’s growth has been leading to this.”
She already has her eyes on the biggest prize too. Blanchard isn’t simply looking to win the MLW Women’s World Championship. Her goal is to turn it into the top women’s title anywhere in wrestling.
“My goal is to make the MLW Women’s World Title the #1 women’s title in wrestling. I’m more than capable of doing it. I’ve gone against some of the biggest names in pro wrestling. I joined this to define and build the division.”
There was also a personal reason behind the decision. Blanchard called joining MLW a strong business move, but after her recent run in TNA, she also wanted somewhere she could enjoy herself again.
“Coming to MLW is a great business decision, but it’s also a decision for my happiness and to have fun.”
Blanchard’s arrival had been building for a while, following her TNA exit. MLW previously confirmed talks with her after she became a free agent, before airing a mysterious diamond-themed “Coming Soon” teaser on the August 29 episode of Fusion.
Now there’s no mystery about what Blanchard wants from MLW. She isn’t coming in just to be another name on the roster. She wants the entire women’s division built around her, and she plans on making its championship the biggest women’s title in wrestling along the way.
