Tessa Blanchard’s MLW run may be over before it even gets started. Just days after MLW announced her debut for September 12 in Charleston, South Carolina, every mention of Blanchard has suddenly disappeared from the company’s website.
MLW had published an article announcing Blanchard for the Charleston show and added her to the roster page on MLW.com. Both are now gone, with her debut announcement and roster listing completely removed from the website.
The timing makes the situation even more interesting because CMLL had already thrown some confusion into Blanchard’s MLW status. After her debut was announced, the lucha libre promotion stated that September 12 would be her only MLW appearance.
That didn’t exactly line up with the way Blanchard had been talking about MLW. During a recent interview with Inside the Ring, she spoke as though she was coming in to become a major part of the women’s division and even declared herself the franchise she believed MLW had been missing.
“What’s been missing from MLW is a franchise, a name that the division is built around. This division was built, and now the franchise… well, I’m here. That’s exactly why I’m here. Every step of this division’s growth has been leading to this.”
Blanchard had even set her sights on taking the MLW Women’s World Championship to another level. She wasn’t talking like someone coming in for a single night, saying she wanted to help define and build the division.
“My goal is to make the MLW Women’s World Title the #1 women’s title in wrestling. I’m more than capable of doing it. I’ve gone against some of the biggest names in pro wrestling. I joined this to define and build the division. Coming to MLW is a great business decision, but it’s also a decision for my happiness and to have fun.”
Something clearly changed between those comments and now. MLW hasn’t publicly explained why Blanchard was removed from its website, and there has been no official announcement confirming that the September 12 appearance is canceled.
Still, removing both her debut announcement and roster page only days before she was supposed to appear is hard to ignore. Unless something changes again, Blanchard’s planned MLW arrival now appears unlikely to happen.
