Speedball Mike Bailey didn’t have to wait long to cash in the biggest win of his night.
Later during AEW Redemption, Bailey appeared backstage with Lexy Nair and confirmed that he will challenge Kyle Fletcher for the AEW International Championship at AEW Grand Slam on August 5.
The announcement came just after Bailey survived a six-man ladder match against Jack Perry, The Beast Mortos, Komander, Nick Wayne and El Clon. With an International Championship opportunity hanging above the ring, Bailey climbed the ladder and pulled down the contract to secure the title shot.
It was a wild opener filled with dives, broken tables and bodies crashing off ladders, but Bailey was the one left holding the contract when the dust settled. AEW then wasted no time locking in the championship match for one of its biggest upcoming shows.
Fletcher retained the International Championship against Bandido later in the night, so the path is now clear. Fletcher walks into Grand Slam with the title, while Bailey arrives with the momentum from one of the biggest victories of his AEW run.
The match gives Bailey a quick chance to turn his ladder-match win into championship gold. Fletcher has already shown that he can survive tough challengers, but Speedball just fought through five other men to earn this shot.
Kyle Fletcher vs. Mike Bailey is now official for AEW Grand Slam on August 5, and Bailey has a chance to walk out with the International Championship around his waist.
