Sol Ruca knows the criticism has gotten louder since she moved to WWE’s main roster, but she isn’t letting it shake her.
While speaking to Sam Roberts, Ruca addressed the negativity she has received from people watching her every move. The interview came after Ruca defeated Becky Lynch to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at WWE Clash in Italy, giving her a major moment after weeks of criticism. Ruca admitted that the limelight is different now compared to NXT. She said more attention naturally brings more negativity, but it also brings more support.
“Yeah, 100%. Even in NXT, we had people who watched our every move and left hate comments and negativity. But being on the main roster, you have more eyes, which means more hate—but also more love.”
Ruca explained that dealing with criticism has become something she has had to learn along the way. She said it was not something she really thought about when she first signed with WWE, but the reality of being picked apart online became clear once more people started watching.
“So it’s something that I’ve had to navigate. It wasn’t something I thought of when I got signed—like, ‘Oh, this means there are going to be more eyes and people trying to nitpick everything.’”
Still, Ruca made it clear that social media criticism is not what matters most to her. As long as the live crowd responds well and the people backstage are happy with her work, she is comfortable with where she stands.
“But at the end of the day, especially with people on social media, it’s such a small percentage of our fanbase. As long as the crowd in person is happy and everyone backstage is happy with what I do, that’s fine with me.”
Ruca’s comments come after Booker T defended her on the Hall of Fame podcast following recent mistakes on WWE television. Booker said those moments are part of a wrestler’s growth and argued that every performer makes mistakes before learning how to improve.
Ruca then answered the criticism in the best way possible by beating Becky Lynch at Clash in Italy and capturing the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Now, with the title in her hands and a bigger spotlight on her than ever before, Ruca seems focused on blocking out the noise and proving herself where it counts.
Sol Ruca’s response shows she understands the pressure that comes with being on the main roster, but she also knows not every online opinion deserves her attention. After her title win, she has a chance to turn the conversation back toward what she does in the ring.
