Grayson Waller officially has his next problem. The WWE NXT episode on September 15, 2026 ended with Mason Rook punching his ticket to an NXT Championship match after surviving Tony D’Angelo and Saquon Shugars in a wild Triple Threat Match.
The stakes couldn’t have been any clearer. Rook, D’Angelo and Shugars had earned their way into the match, and whoever walked out with the win would become the next man in line for Waller’s NXT Championship.
All three guys threw everything at each other. D’Angelo busted out German suplexes and even dropped Rook with a Jackhammer, while Shugars nearly stole the whole thing after hitting a splash on Rook. That pin was stopped when Tristan Angels yanked the referee out of the ring before he could count three.
That opened the door for Rook. After Shugars got tied up fighting Angels at ringside, Rook drilled D’Angelo with a Blue Thunder Bomb. He then went upstairs and crushed him with a Super Splash to get the three-count and officially become the new No. 1 contender.
Waller had spent part of the night backstage running on a treadmill while the rest of NXT fought over who would get to come after his championship. By the time the show was over, that question had an answer — Mason Rook is next.
WWE has not announced when Waller will defend the NXT Championship against Rook, but the challenger is now locked in. Rook fought his way through two other hungry contenders to get there, and now he gets the biggest opportunity of his NXT run.
