The mother of a 6-year-old boy who encountered CM Punk at a WWE hotel has issued a statement denying that her family followed or stalked him after the Las Cruces live event.
According to her statement on Instagram, she says her sons simply recognized Punk after arriving at the hotel around the same time as several wrestlers. The family did not invade Punk’s space and only hoped he might acknowledge the children with a smile or wave.
The controversy started after Punk posted a since-deleted Instagram Story one day after WWE’s event in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Punk thanked the crowd before warning people not to follow him back to his hotel.
“Ahi for breakfast. Breakfast of champions. Please do not follow me to my hotel. Las Cruces, you were lovely—loud and fun. See you all soon. Albuquerque on deck. Thank you.”
Punk did not identify anyone or explain what happened at the hotel. However, the warning made it appear that someone had tracked him from the arena to where he was staying.
Ringside News later learned about an encounter involving a family and their 6-year-old son, Matthew. The mother claimed the family was already casually spending time in the lobby when Matthew noticed Punk and became excited. A family member accused Punk of “mad-dogging” them after the young boy recognized him. The mother walked away from the encounter with a blunt lesson for her son, “Don’t meet your heroes.”
The mother has now addressed the situation directly on Instagram, making it clear that her family did not chase Punk through Las Cruces or wait outside his hotel looking for him.
“We did not stalk him or invade his space. We arrived at the hotel at the same time as some of the wrestlers. A little smile or wave would have been nice, but instead, he totally ignored the boys and walked past them after the boys acknowledged him. No pasa nada.”
Her statement pushes back against the idea that the boys crossed a line or invaded Punk’s privacy. She said they happened to arrive while several WWE stars were also entering the hotel and that her sons only acknowledged Punk after seeing him.
The mother also shared several photos on her Instagram Stories showing the family meeting other wrestlers at the same hotel. Trick Williams, Charlotte Flair, Oba Femi and other WWE stars were shown stopping to speak with the boys and taking photos without any visible problems.
