Sheamus’ WWE situation just got even messier, because the latest word is that he is done with the company, but not fully free just yet.
Fightful Select now states that Sheamus is done with WWE, but he is still under contract at this moment. That makes the situation weird, because Sheamus previously said he signed a five-year deal in 2024. Somehow, that deal is still said to be up soon, but the exact reason why has not been made clear.
The big part is that WWE apparently tried to keep him, but not on the kind of deal he wanted. It was noted that Sheamus was offered a restructured extension and rejected it. One WWE source did not make that sound like a small thing either. The source claimed Sheamus was offered less money to stay, and they viewed that as a slap in the face after everything he gave the company.
“Sheamus was offered less money to stay in WWE, and they considered that an insult after the work he put in.”
That lines up with why this exit feels different. This does not sound like WWE just cutting him out of nowhere. It sounds like WWE wanted him back at a lower number, and Sheamus said no.
AEW is already going to be part of the conversation, but it’s being said that AEW sources had no idea this news was coming. Sheamus and Claudio Castagnoli are still close, and Claudio is expected to be one of the people pushing for him in AEW.
That does not mean AEW is the only option. One AEW source pointed out that CMLL and other outside options could also allow Sheamus and Claudio to work together again. Sheamus is also expected to get strong interest from independent promoters in the United States and overseas, plus signing and convention bookings.
Sheamus is now based out of Nashville, so that could also factor into what he does next. After almost 20 years in WWE, he may not be rushing straight into another full-time grind unless the money and schedule make sense.
There is also the name situation. His real name is Stephen Farrelly, but he used “Sheamus O’Shaunessy” before WWE. Fightful noted that it is not unreasonable to think he could use the full name again, though they are still working to confirm that.
Sheamus also has representation, so this next move is not just going to be some random indie booking spree unless that is what he wants. He has options, and now it sounds like people around wrestling are already getting ready to make their pitch.
For now, Sheamus is done with WWE, but still technically under contract. Once that clears up, the real bidding starts.
Do you think Sheamus should go to AEW, TNA, CMLL, or just work his own schedule on the indies? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments section below.
