Sheamus is finally speaking about life after WWE, but he is still keeping the real reason behind his exit close to the vest.
While speaking with Adam’s Apple, the former WWE Champion was asked whether he plans to continue wrestling or call it a career once he officially becomes a free agent. Sheamus did not announce his next move, but he made it clear that he is enjoying the break.
After nearly 20 years on WWE’s road schedule, Sheamus said he is traveling with his wife, working out and spending more time with his family in Ireland.
“I’m just enjoying my time off. I’m having a good time. I’m bringing the missus over to Paris and going back to Dublin to see the family. I’m enjoying my workouts. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life, and yeah, I’m just in a really good place. It’s been awesome.”
Sheamus was then asked how his WWE departure went down and whether leaving was his decision or the company’s. He refused to reveal the full story, only saying that certain circumstances came up.
“Some circumstances came up. I can’t really talk about it, obviously, but 19 years was a good crack. I left Ireland in ’07, so I haven’t really had the luxury to go home and see my family and see my friends.”
The Celtic Warrior went on to explain that his time away from WWE has allowed him to reconnect with relatives and make up for birthdays and family moments he missed during his career.
“The last couple of weeks now, I’ve had a chance to kind of restructure that, get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities. I’ve got a nephew and niece back home, Theo and Sophia. I love the kids, and I get to see them more now. They’re awesome—six and four.”
Sheamus is still under WWE contract and is expected to officially become a free agent on October 1. WWE previously tried to keep him with a restructured extension that came with less money, but he chose not to accept the reduced terms.
For now, Sheamus is not rushing into anything. He looks healthy, says he is in the best shape of his life and has not closed the door on wrestling again. Once October 1 arrives, the former world champion will be free to decide whether his next chapter takes him to AEW, another promotion or away from the ring altogether.
