Sheamus’ WWE future is finally a little clearer, as a new report has revealed exactly when the former world champion is expected to become a free agent after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his contract status. While he’s finished with the company, he’ll remain under WWE contract for a little while longer.

According to Fightful Select, Sheamus is still under WWE contract but is expected to officially become a free agent on October 1, giving fans a clearer timeline for when one of WWE’s longest-tenured stars will be able to sign elsewhere.

The update answers one of the biggest questions surrounding Sheamus’ departure. Although the former world champion previously revealed he had signed a five-year WWE deal in 2024, reports have since indicated that his contract is ending much sooner than many expected. Exactly why that is hasn’t been explained.

Earlier reports also revealed that WWE tried to keep Sheamus by offering him a restructured contract extension. However, the proposed deal came with less money, and Sheamus ultimately decided to walk away rather than accept reduced terms.

Now that an October 1 free agency date has emerged, attention will inevitably turn to what’s next. AEW has already been linked to Sheamus because of his close friendship with Claudio Castagnoli, while promotions like CMLL, independent companies and convention promoters are also expected to show interest once he’s officially available.

For now, though, Sheamus remains under WWE contract. Unless something changes before then, October 1 is expected to mark the end of his nearly 20-year run with WWE and officially open the door to the next chapter of his career.
