Sami Callihan’s next stop in wrestling may already be taking shape, following his TNA exit.
After it emerged that Sami Callihan’s TNA departure ended with him believing he was about to discuss a bigger creative role before being let go, Callihan is already popping up backstage somewhere else.
According to BodySlam.net, Callihan has quietly been working behind the scenes at AEW Dynamite over the last three weeks and is also expected to be backstage for AEW Collision in Boston tonight. The report says Callihan has seemingly been helping out as a backstage producer rather than appearing as an on-screen talent.
That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s officially All Elite, though. When BodySlam asked about Callihan’s contract status, the response was that there doesn’t appear to be a deal in place just yet: “It doesn’t seem like he has a contract yet.”
Even without a signed contract, it’s a notable development considering how abruptly Callihan’s run with TNA came to an end. We had recently reported that Callihan believed he was heading into a conversation about joining TNA’s creative team before instead learning he was finished with the company. The report also stated that several people within TNA had been pushing for him to receive a larger creative role after months of working as a producer, agent and helping with areas such as marketing and merchandise.
Whether the backstage role turns into a full-time position remains to be seen, but AEW is clearly comfortable bringing him into the production side of the company while evaluating what comes next. For now, the message is pretty clear.
