That is when Spencer claimed the man had sexually abused her while she was still in middle school. She admitted she could not remember their exact ages, but said she believed she may have been around 15 while the man was around 20 before revealing just how close he was to Roberts.
“That’s why I didn’t go to her wedding because that guy was there. Well, when I was too young for him, he was molesting me during, you know, my middle school years and I guess he was like almost or like in college or something or maybe he was like 20 and I was like 15 or something. I can’t remember exactly, but he was Sam’s age and I was whatever age I was.”
“So, um, but that’s—that’s his best man at his wedding and his best friend. And he’s—I’m just—I’m just talking and adding to the things that they like to sweep under the rug in front of my face in life. I’m just going through what I’m going—processing this trauma of my crazy family that includes somehow Sam Roberts at times.”
Spencer then went even further and questioned why nobody around her seemed willing to confront what she says happened. For her, this was not some random guy from decades ago either, because she claims he remained close enough to Roberts to stand beside him at his wedding.
“So, yeah, like that—like why the fck did that happen? Like why was his best friend fcking um taking advantage of me when I was in middle school? And why did nobody give a fck? And why did nobody uh like ask me if I was mentally—”*
The hosts then asked the obvious question: did Spencer ever confront Roberts about what she says happened? Spencer said she went to her sister instead, but claims that conversation went sideways fast and left her feeling like she was the problem for saying anything at all.
“I went to my sister.”
“Yeah, I went to my sister and said it and she was like, ‘Oh my God.’ She was like, ‘Don’t—like how dare you.’ Like she blamed me. You know what I mean? She was like, ‘Oh, we can’t have that.’ You know what I mean? Like, you know, like they have to sweep anything bad under the rug. So, it’s—they’re very fake, you know, like very um Stepford.”
That accusation makes Spencer’s long-running family war look even uglier. She says he entered her life when she was still a teenager and became someone she viewed almost like an older brother, which is why she says the way everything played out cut as deep as it did.
There is one major line that cannot get blurred here: Spencer is not accusing Sam Roberts of sexually abusing her. She is accusing a man she described as Roberts’ best friend and best man, and the interview itself does not independently prove that allegation or include a response from the man she accused.
