Sam Roberts’ sister-in-law says he didn’t just marry into her family—he became part of the reason she eventually felt pushed out of it.
Speaking on Monte and the Pharaoh, Hayley Spencer made a series of allegations against Roberts, claiming he helped her family isolate her over the years, ignored her during some of the hardest moments of her life, and never reached out while she struggled with homelessness and unstable housing. For Spencer, this wasn’t about someone who simply married her sister. She says Roberts came into the family when she was still a teenager, and over the years she grew to see him as an older brother.
“Um I was still kind of there, still kind of not there. Like it took I don’t know. It was like a process of like kind of distancing me from the family for years. And like another, you know, another reason I didn’t want to go to their wedding was because somebody was there that made me feel super uncomfortable.
Growing up with my toxic family and then Sam entering my family that, you know what I mean? Like I see him as um like my older brother. Like I see him as a part of my family because he entered my family in my late teenage years and now I’m going to be 40.
So it’s like he’s been a part of my life for way too long. So it’s like I… you know he helped my family kind of treat me like garbage. Um and another thing that I always thought was weird with Sam is like… I have one of these SAG cards, you know what I mean? So it’s just like he never like did anything. He was always like no like I don’t know her.”
Spencer said things really hit her while she was trying to make it on her own in Los Angeles. Looking back on those years, she says she couldn’t understand why someone she considered family never stepped in.
“Like, and I just remember like being in LA and like sleeping on the sidewalk and thinking, damn, like Sam never had to go through this and like Sam like did everything he could to like suffocate me with my family. And then that’s when I started a little bit making the videos and feeling some type of way about my family.”
Spencer also believes her relationship with her sister slowly fell apart because she wasn’t afraid to tell her what she really thought about Roberts. She recalled her sister calling her while Roberts was constantly traveling to build his career, saying she often complained that he was never around.
“My sister would call me and she’d be like, ‘Oh, Sam’s never around.’ And I’d be like, ‘Yeah, like I don’t know, Jess.’ So part of the reason like our friendship and my relationship with my sister got distanced is because I would always be the one that’s like are you sure you want to be with this guy he’s like interviewing porn stars Jess and like you know what I mean like he’s like never around like it was hard it was hard for her. So the more I brought up how it was difficult for her to be dating this guy who was trying to become a celebrity the further she pushed me out of like you know what I mean?”
The interview then shifted to Spencer’s struggles with homelessness, something she says she’s been dealing with for nearly seven years. She wasn’t just frustrated with Roberts. Spencer questioned why neither her own family nor Roberts’ family ever stepped in, saying even a small amount of help could have made a huge difference.
“I don’t appreciate having this stupid… card and and like, ‘Yo, can I at least get nepotism? Can you call me on the phone and ask me if I’m okay?’ Like I’ve been in crisis dealing with unstable housing and like PTSD and all types of… for like nearly seven years. Seven years. My family’s got money. His family’s got money. Anybody could have done something to help at this point. Like anything like a co-signature on an apartment or like any my credit shot, you know? It’s hard out. America is not cheap right now. Like just in case you didn’t know, like it’s getting worse by like the moment.
So yeah, like I’m… too broke to afford my rent in life and I’m like chronically dealing with homelessness and I just needed my family’s help, you know, at one point. So which I still do, but I don’t speak to them at all. So it’s like I’m probably going to be like in and out of shelters like for the rest of my… life possibly unless I can figure out a way to like stabilize, but you can’t even stabilize from a shelter. Like people don’t understand that.”
One of Spencer’s biggest accusations came when the hosts asked what Roberts actually did while she was going through all of this. According to Spencer, he never reached out. Instead, she claimed Roberts would watch her Instagram Stories—including posts where she said she’d been beaten up and hospitalized—but never contact her or pass along messages to her mother.
“No. You want to know what he would do? He would watch my stories and I’d be like, ‘Sam, tell my mom um I just got beat up and I’m in the hospital. Um, tell her to call me.’ And he’d literally just watch my stories like a weirdo like… like a freak. And he would like sometimes like… like one post and then like run away like a… you know like why are you taunting me?”
When one of the hosts asked if Roberts would literally just like a post and disappear, Spencer said that was exactly what happened.
“He would every now like at times he would either watch my story or… like one post and then disappear but he would never… we would never talk or anything. “So he never cared.”
Whether Roberts responds or not remains to be seen, but Spencer made it clear she still holds him responsible for becoming part of the family dynamic that she says pushed her out.
