Rusev knows fans still love chanting “Rusev Day,” but he’s making it clear that nostalgia isn’t something he plans to lean on as he heads into another major moment in his WWE career.
During his appearance on TMZ Inside the Ring, the topic shifted to fan reactions, specifically how crowds still chant “Rusev Day” years after the phrase became one of WWE’s most memorable crowd movements. The chant caught fire during his run with Aiden English and quickly turned into one of the most recognizable fan responses of that era.
Rusev admitted that hearing fans continue to chant his name and celebrate that time in his career still means something to him. He reflected on how strong the fan connection was during that period, recalling how widespread the chants became even outside WWE arenas.
“It's always good to see that people have been following me for all this time. Rusev Day back was such a fun time in my career, you know, with me, CJ, with Aiden. It was such a great time, man. I remember being at that WrestleMania in New Orleans and on the streets everybody was chanting and singing Rusev Day. It was great time to be part of.”
Despite that appreciation, Rusev also made it clear he refuses to let nostalgia slow him down or soften his mindset. He explained that staying focused and aggressive is more important than getting caught up in feel-good moments, especially when major matches are on the horizon.
“It kind of melts my heart, but I got to shut that thing down fast because I don't want to have a soft heart. I just want to be as intense as possible and just go and kick ass. I don't want to be distracted by anything.”
“Rusev Day” remains one of the most recognizable chants tied to his WWE career, and its continued presence shows how strong that connection with fans still is. Still, Rusev’s comments make it clear he’s focused on moving forward rather than reliving the past, keeping his attention locked on competition and staying dangerous inside the ring.
Fans continuing to chant his name years later shows just how lasting certain WWE moments can be, but Rusev appears determined to keep his edge sharp instead of leaning into nostalgia.
