Roman Reigns found out very quickly that Mexico City was not on his side. During the WWE RAW episode for September 14, 2026, the World Heavyweight Champion made his entrance for the main event against Penta and got buried under a wall of boos from the crowd.
Penta had already made his entrance first, and the reaction for him was enormous. The Mexico City crowd treated him like a god, giving him what sounded like the biggest pop of the entire night as he headed to the ring for the biggest WWE match of his career.
Then Roman came out, and the mood completely changed. Reigns slowly made his way through the crowd with the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist, and fans absolutely let him have it. The boos were loud, sustained and impossible to ignore, but Roman didn’t flinch. He stayed calm, kept his face locked in and continued toward the ring like none of it bothered him.
That reaction was even more interesting considering WWE had been pushing Roman hard around the Mexico City show. The company even released Roman Reigns lucha masks ahead of RAW, but the crowd clearly had no interest in showing the champion any love once the main event arrived.
Penta earned the title opportunity after winning the tournament to become Roman Reigns’ next challenger, and once he stepped into Arena CDMX, it was obvious who the people wanted to see leave with the belt.
Roman has worked in front of hostile crowds plenty of times, but this one was especially brutal because the contrast was so sharp. Penta walked out to a hero’s welcome, and Roman followed him out to a chorus of boos that made it very clear Mexico City wanted a title change.
Reigns didn’t give the crowd the reaction they were looking for, though. He stayed composed through all of it, which only made the scene feel even colder as he headed into the ring knowing almost everyone in the building wanted him to lose.
