EC3’s viral entrance video had people fearing something was seriously wrong, but Rockstar Spud says there is a much less alarming explanation for what viewers saw.
Spud, also known as Drake Maverick, took to social media after speaking directly with EC3. He said the former TNA World Champion had dealt with a long travel day, multiple flights, heavy training after landing and a legitimate leg issue before stepping into the ring.
“I spoke to Michael this morning. Long travel day, multiple flights, heavy training upon landing, messed-up leg and, I quote, ‘Add in disrupted sleep, meal timing, hydration and hours of travel, and my digestive system was completely off schedule. My GI tract could not produce my usual shit-myself-lean beforehand.’”
The ASW Canada clip showed EC3 moving stiffly toward the ring, with some viewers also pointing to his hands and a noticeable change in his body. Spud said the video was taken from the second match of a one-night story, where EC3 was selling damage to his leg from earlier in the event while also working through a real injury.
“The video circulating is taken from match two of a one-night story, where he is selling the effects of a leg from earlier, which is already really hurt, but working through injury.”
Spud admitted he was concerned enough to contact EC3 himself, but said the conversation left him believing his longtime friend was okay. He also asked people to remember there is a real person behind the clip before piling on with speculation.
“Please consider the real human being behind what you post, but I appreciate everyone’s concern, as I myself was concerned enough to ask. I love my friend. I believe he is good.”
EC3 has not released his own public statement, but Spud’s explanation changes the picture. What looked like a frightening decline may have been a mix of travel exhaustion, a real injury, storyline selling and one badly timed digestive issue.
Do you think Spud’s explanation clears up the concern surrounding EC3’s viral video, or do you still think EC3 should take time away from the ring? Leave your feedback in the comments.
