Zoey Serrano tried to clear up one thing about her personal life, and somehow ended up getting a whole new title out of it. The former WWE star made it clear that she’s straight, loves her LGBTQ+ fans and is happy being an ally — but after joking that she’d gladly accept “queer icon” status, Road Dogg Brian James jumped in and basically told her to quit resisting and own it.
The whole thing started during Serrano’s appearance on Ring the Belle, where the conversation turned to the long-running fan assumption about her sexuality. Serrano said the question still follows her around even though she regularly posts about her husband. She finally put it as plainly as possible.
“Look, I love my gays. All right. I love you all. I am straight, though. I am going to put that out there because even to this day when I post something with me and my husband… I still get comments. I’m an ally. But I am straight, you know. Sorry, ladies.”
That should have settled it, but the conversation only got funnier from there. Serrano then talked about her WWE run alongside Sonya Deville and Shayna Baszler and admitted that the whole group had its own running joke backstage. She even said she had no problem with fans putting an honorary title on her anyway. Serrano also revealed the trio had one joke they kept coming back to.
“No, Sonya and Shayna are really the queer… You can’t take that title. I am an ally. I mean, if we want to call myself a queer icon, I am more than happy. But, you know, Sonya really, like, broke through with it, right? I was there for a good time, baby.”
“I mean, we did have a running joke that I am the gay one. I’m more gay than Sonya and straighter than Shayna.”
Then Serrano took the joke straight to X. On September 17, 2026, she reposted the interview clip and openly leaned into the new label.
“Not me fully embracing my new title as a gay icon. Thanks @ringthebelleds had so much fun 😁😂”
That’s when Road Dogg decided Serrano needed one last push. Brian James replied directly to her post and told her to stop overthinking it.
“Just embrace it Zoey. I did! Oh yea, ask @EfrenBlackJack.”
So now Serrano has gone from trying to shut down one long-running assumption to getting advice from Road Dogg on how to handle her accidental “gay icon” era. The funny part is Serrano clearly isn’t bothered by any of it. She set the record straight, made it obvious she appreciates the LGBTQ+ fans who support her, and then immediately started having fun with the nickname instead of running from it.
At this point, the label may be sticking whether she planned for it or not. Serrano said she’s straight, Road Dogg said embrace the title, and now the joke has officially taken on a life of its own.
