Ric Flair and Mike Tyson just picked up a major victory outside the ring, and this one could have serious financial consequences. The WWE Hall of Famer and boxing legend scored a significant win in their ongoing lawsuit against individuals connected to a cannabis company after a federal judge refused to throw out their case.
According to TMZ Sports, a federal judge in Illinois rejected a motion to dismiss the RICO lawsuit filed by Flair, Tyson, and other plaintiffs in December. The lawsuit accuses five individuals associated with Carma and Tyson 2.0 of financial misconduct that allegedly cost the two sports legends millions of dollars.
The allegations are pretty serious. Flair and Tyson claim that two executives at Carma treated the company like their own personal bank account, allegedly diverting more than $1 million in company funds. According to the lawsuit, that money was used to cover lavish personal expenses, including private jet trips, yacht-related costs, and renovations to personal homes. The lawsuit also accuses other individuals of receiving undisclosed kickbacks from business deals they negotiated without Tyson and Flair knowing about those arrangements.
Five defendants — Chad Bronstein, Adam Wilks, Nicole Cosby, James Case, and Christopher Volo — have strongly denied the allegations. They filed a joint motion seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed on several grounds, but the judge rejected their arguments, allowing the case to move forward. Following the ruling, a representative for Tyson 2.0 welcomed the decision and made it clear that the plaintiffs intend to keep fighting.
“This ruling represents a significant development in our clients’ pursuit of justice. Mike Tyson and his fellow plaintiffs have brought this case because they were victims of serious financial misconduct and a calculated betrayal of the obligations owed to them and their businesses.”
The representative also addressed the defendants’ unsuccessful attempt to have the lawsuit thrown out before the allegations could be examined further.
“The defendants sought to have these claims dismissed before the case could proceed on its merits. The Court’s decision allows the litigation to move forward, and we welcome that opportunity. Our clients are prepared to pursue the evidence, hold those responsible accountable, and seek the full measure of relief available under the law.”
There’s a massive amount of money potentially at stake. Tyson and Flair are seeking tens of millions of dollars in damages, claiming they lost money through the alleged misuse of company funds and missed out on additional earnings from business deals they weren’t informed about.
However, the ruling doesn’t mean Flair and Tyson have won the entire lawsuit. The judge’s decision simply allows their claims to proceed, and the allegations against the defendants have not been proven in court. For Ric Flair and Mike Tyson, getting past the dismissal attempt is a significant development in a legal battle involving some serious accusations and potentially enormous damages. Both men have spent decades building their names in professional sports, and now they’re fighting to recover money they believe was wrongfully taken from them. The case is far from over, but their legal opponents have failed to stop it at this stage.
