Rebel isn’t letting ALS take away her fight—or her sense of humor.
Just a couple of weeks after sharing an emotional Fourth of July post where she admitted she didn’t know if it might be her last, Rebel was back on social media for a very different reason. This time, she was laughing.
Rebel took to Twitter to reveal that she had been nominated by Steve Gleason for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and before long, Britt Baker was standing behind her with a bucket of ice water ready to finish the job.
As soon as Baker dumped the bucket over her head, Rebel let out a scream before immediately bursting into laughter, taking the freezing surprise like a champ. Before getting soaked, Rebel used the moment to encourage others to join the campaign and named several high-profile figures she wants to see take on the challenge next.
“I have been nominated by Steve Gleason for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Chris Johnson has done an amazing job of getting the NFL to support him in this challenge.”
She first turned to some Dallas Cowboys legends, explaining that she grew up cheering for the team. Then Rebel looked toward the wrestling world, calling out some of the biggest names in the industry.
“Now, a lot of you might not know, but I cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. Now I’m nominating Troy Aikman, Deion Sanders, and Kelly, the director of the Cowboys. I cheered for you when you played on the team, so now please be a cheerleader for me in my time of need. Now, wrestlers, I nominate Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Nattie Neidhart, Charlotte Flair, Sting, Kenny Omega, Big Show, Beth Phoenix, and Cope.”
The video offered a much lighter moment after what has been an incredibly emotional few months. Rebel publicly revealed in May that she has been diagnosed with terminal ALS, prompting an outpouring of support from across wrestling. AEW launched its Rebel Heart campaign to raise money for ALS charities, while wrestlers throughout the company have continued showing their support both on television and on social media.
Even while facing the toughest battle of her life, Rebel found a reason to smile—and thanks to Britt Baker, she also found herself completely drenched.
