Jordynne Grace and Ivy Nile may already have more than just a tag team pitch waiting for them. WWE has apparently taken the idea far enough that a possible name for the duo is now coming into focus.
Fightful Select reports that WWE pitched teaming Grace and Nile earlier this year, with the idea progressing beyond the discussion stage. Sources close to creative said vignettes were filmed over the summer with the hope of airing them sometime in September.
That becomes even more interesting because WWE sources believe the planned team is connected to the “Iron Built” trademark, potentially revealing the name or branding WWE intends to use if Grace and Nile make it to television together.
Neither woman has been missing because of an injury. It was also said that both have simply been waiting for creative, which lines up with previous information surrounding Grace’s long absence from SmackDown. That also adds another to what Sean Ross Sapp said during the September 8 Fightful Select Q&A. Sapp previously indicated that WWE could have something “categorically different” planned for Grace after months without a regular television role.
“At home. I’d heard they might have something coming up soon. Something categorically different.”
Sapp also said he had seen Grace at the Pixel Flow event weeks earlier, but she wasn’t about to give away whatever WWE might have been preparing. He then added:
“I saw her at the Pixel Flow event a few weeks ago and she wouldn’t spill the beans. She’s too well behaved for that, man.”
“But I think they could be bringing her back soon. I think so.”
Grace’s absence hasn’t been tied to another injury. WrestleVotes previously explained that she became caught in the numbers game after SmackDown returned to a two-hour format, leaving less television time for WWE to spread across the roster.
Grace had already lost a major opportunity earlier this year when an ankle injury forced WWE to scrap WrestleMania 42 plans involving her. She eventually returned to action, but a major SmackDown storyline never followed.
Nile has also been away from WWE television for an extended stretch. It was also recently noted that her current WWE contract is expected to expire in October, while Grace still has multiple years remaining on her deal.
The biggest development now is that WWE may already have the identity for this team sitting on the table. “Iron Built” would certainly fit two wrestlers whose entire presentation is built around strength and physicality, and the fact that vignettes were already filmed suggests this was much more than a random creative pitch. Whether WWE actually moves forward with Grace and Nile as Iron Built remains to be seen, but this is the most concrete sign yet of what the company may have planned for both women after months away from television.
