Jordynne Grace’s long absence from WWE television may finally be nearing an end—and her return might not look anything like what fans expect.
During the September 8 Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp was asked where Grace has been after spending months largely missing from SmackDown. Sapp said Grace is currently at home, but he has heard WWE may have something new coming for her soon.
“At home. I’d heard they might have something coming up soon. Something categorically different.”
That “categorically different” line is the biggest part of the update, especially considering Grace has struggled to find consistent television time since returning from injury. Sapp also revealed that he recently crossed paths with Grace at the Pixel Flow event. Whatever WWE may have planned, she wasn’t giving anything away. Sapp then doubled down on the possibility that WWE could finally be getting ready to bring Grace back into the fold.
“I saw her at the Pixel Flow event a few weeks ago and she wouldn’t spill the beans. She’s too well behaved for that, man.”
“But I think they could be bringing her back soon. I think so.”
The update adds a new wrinkle to Grace’s strange run on SmackDown. WrestleVotes recently explained that Grace has been caught in a numbers game since the show moved back to two hours, with less television time available for the women’s division while names like Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Randy Orton occupy major pieces of the show.
Grace has remained healthy and available, but she hasn’t been involved in a regular storyline. She has worked occasional Main Event matches, while previous reports indicated she had even traveled to television tapings without being used.
Her momentum had already taken a hit when an ankle injury derailed plans for a WrestleMania 42 Women’s United States Championship Triple Threat involving Grace, Tiffany Stratton and Giulia. Once Grace was cleared, however, the expected television comeback never really happened.
Now it sounds like WWE may finally have something waiting for her—and Sapp’s description of it as “categorically different” raises plenty of questions about what that actually means. Grace may have been stuck at home while WWE figured things out, but if this update is any indication, that wait could be coming to an end.
