El Hijo del Vikingo still has a long road ahead of him before he can wrestle again, but his recovery appears to be moving in the right direction. Nearly two months after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL, the AAA star has now shown fans just how much progress he’s already making in rehab.

Vikingo took to Instagram and uploaded a video from one of his rehabilitation sessions. The footage showed him working through several exercises, including squats and other movements designed to rebuild strength in his injured leg.

Vikingo was clearly encouraged by how things are progressing, calling it a “very productive week” as he continues working his way back. He also thanked his therapist, WWE and AAA for helping him through the recovery process.

“A very productive week thanks to my friend @ladytsportstherapy for the rehab. Thanks to @wwe and @luchalibreaaa for the support.”

His wife, Diana Jauregui, better known as Aleidis, has also remained by his side throughout the entire process. Vikingo made sure she received some love as well while sharing the latest milestone in his recovery.

“Thanks to my wife @aleidis_oficial for always being by my side supporting me through this process.”

This is an encouraging development considering the lengthy recovery Vikingo was facing when he went under the knife. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio on July 16 that the expectation following surgery was approximately nine months on the sidelines.

“Out nine months. That’s what it looks like after the surgery. That’s the word I’m told.”

The torn ACL had already forced WWE to scrap Vikingo’s scheduled AAA Latin American Championship defense against E.K. Prosper on the June 30 episode of NXT. WWE instead ran an injury angle involving Keanu Carver before Vikingo eventually underwent successful surgery.

There are still several months of rehabilitation ahead, and doing squats and more in September doesn’t necessarily mean Vikingo’s original return timetable will suddenly become shorter. What it does show is that he’s making tangible progress, rebuilding strength in his leg and moving through the rehabilitation process without any publicly disclosed setback.

Vikingo’s return may still be a long way off, but for now, seeing him back on his feet and putting the injured knee to work is about as encouraging an update as fans could ask for at this stage of his recovery.
