Paul Heyman is pushing back hard on the idea that Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania 42 retirement was some carefully planned secret — because according to Heyman, he genuinely had no clue it was coming either.
While speaking to TMZ Sports, Paul Heyman addressed Brock Lesnar’s emotional WrestleMania retirement moment and swore the decision completely blindsided him. The comments come only weeks after Lesnar lost to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 before leaving his gloves and boots in the middle of the ring while Heyman watched emotionally from ringside.
Before WrestleMania, Heyman had publicly denied retirement rumors and even suggested Lesnar still had many years left in him. Because of that, TMZ directly asked him whether he had secretly known the retirement was coming all along. Heyman immediately shot that idea down and pointed to his previous public comments as proof.
“If I knew he was gonna retire, would I have gone on record saying he was gonna dominate for the next 15 years??”
Heyman also referenced how emotional he became during the actual WrestleMania farewell and insisted those reactions were completely genuine: “I was crying.” He then joked that he simply is not capable of performing that kind of emotional reaction on command.
“Am I that good of an actor that I can cry on cue?? Not I.”
Even while discussing Lesnar’s apparent retirement, Heyman made it clear he’s already shifting focus toward the future and the rise of The Vision. When asked what comes next after Lesnar’s departure, Heyman immediately started naming the stars he believes are about to take over WWE.
“Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Bronson Reed, Austin Theory — The Vision taking over WWE.”
At the same time, WWE itself has continued treating Lesnar’s WrestleMania 42 moment as a legitimate farewell. The company has already moved him into the alumni section of WWE.com, aired tribute-style video packages across Raw and SmackDown, and updated SmackDown’s intro video to move Lesnar from the “now” section into the “forever” category.
Whether Lesnar is truly done or eventually returns for one final match remains unclear, but Heyman is now publicly insisting the retirement moment was completely real — at least from his perspective.
