Danhausen’s wild WrestleMania 42 segment didn’t start out nearly as chaotic as it ended up being — and now there’s a behind-the-scenes explanation for how it all came together.
The segment featuring Danhausen, John Cena, and The Miz quickly turned into a full-blown spectacle, complete with a go-cart entrance, an army of performers, and total in-ring chaos. But according to someone who was actually part of it, the idea started off way more low-key.
Speaking to Rewind Recap Relive, Richard Fitzwell of Micro Mania Midget Wrestling — one of Danhausen’s helpers during the segment — revealed that the entire thing was originally supposed to be a quick walkout before it snowballed backstage.
“So, it was supposed to be something simple—just walk out with him down the ramp—but it evolved into something bigger.”
Fitzwell explained that things changed fast once The Miz got involved behind the scenes, pitching ideas that ended up expanding the segment in real time. From there, the segment kept growing as more pieces were added during rehearsals — including involvement from John Cena, who wasn’t originally part of the plan.
“We had The Miz come to our dressing room, and he asked us if we could pick him up. So he kind of started that. Backstage, we lifted him up, and he said, ‘Alright, I’m going to go to production and see if we can add it to the skit.’ Then we went to rehearsal—John Cena was side stage. Danhausen asked Cena to be part of the production.”
What started as a simple entrance quickly turned into a full in-ring sequence, with coordinated spots and a full-on beatdown built into the segment.
“Then they asked if we would come into the ring, and one of the guys gets pushed, and another one hits him low—and then we all jump him, pummel him, and then go back to Miz and carry him out.”
“So it all just built and evolved. Like I said, it started simple and then turned into something big. To have John Cena out there, plus The Miz and Danhausen—that’s like a dream come true.”
