Octagón Jr. has received an important medical update after his frightening neck injury at AAA Noche de los Grandes, and thankfully, things could have been much worse.

According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer, Octagón Jr.’s MRI came back good after he suffered a frightening neck injury during the Noche de los Grandes Night Two taping. While he is still expected to miss time, the situation apparently avoided a much worse outcome.

“He will likely be out several months but could have been much worse.”

The injury happened during a Fatal 5-Way match taped for the June 6 edition of Noche de los Grandes, featuring Octagón Jr., Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, Lince Dorado, and Mini Vikingo. Octagón Jr. landed badly after taking a DDT from the highest point of the top rope with Joaquin Wilde. He was left down on the mat as the match continued, and things quickly turned serious when the referee threw up the X sign for medical help.

Officials then removed Octagón Jr. from the match on a stretcher while his neck was immobilized, which immediately raised concern about how serious the injury might be. At the time, there was no official word on whether he had suffered structural damage or if the neck immobilization was mainly precautionary. Alvarez’s update now gives a more hopeful picture, even though Octagón Jr. may still be out for several months.

Octagón Jr. has been one of AAA’s most reliable names and has remained heavily featured following WWE’s acquisition of the promotion. Any extended absence will still hurt, but the positive MRI result is a huge relief after how bad the spot looked in Monterrey. For now, Octagón Jr. appears to have avoided the worst-case scenario. The road back may still take time, but the latest update gives fans a reason to breathe a little easier.
