Nyla Rose has been open about how frustrating it is to spend so much time off AEW television. But if you think she blames Tony Khan for that, think again. The former AEW Women’s World Champion has now addressed the situation again, making it clear that, based on her own experiences with Khan, she doesn’t believe he’s the reason she’s been missing from TV.
Recently, Rose admitted it had been difficult watching the AEW women’s division continue to move forward while she waited for another opportunity. She said she wanted more for herself and couldn’t help but wonder when it would finally be her turn again after such a lengthy absence from television.
While speaking on the Off The Rails podcast, Rose was once again asked about her AEW status. She immediately defended Tony Khan and said she genuinely doesn’t believe he’s the one responsible for her lack of television time.
“No. No. Don’t beat up Tony Khan. Or… or just distract him and, you know, we’ll tag team him a little bit. No. Um, no. I genuinely don’t think it’s him. I genuinely, genuinely don’t think it’s him. You know how they say trust your gut. And this isn’t me just, like, glazing him because he’s my boss or anything like that.
It’s just, um, there may be some things I can’t talk about or, like, things I can only speculate on, but, like, in my heart of hearts, just the relationship that we have and, like, the conversations that we have, I don’t think it’s him, you know?”
Rose went on to explain that her opinion isn’t based on Khan simply being a nice person. She said one of the things she respects most is that he’ll be honest with talent, even if that means shutting down an idea completely.
“And not even the fact that he’s just nice. He’s genuine, right? Like he’s… he’s not really one to, like, tell you what you want to hear, you know? He’s… he’ll… if it’s what doesn’t need to be or what can’t be, he’ll tell you. He absolutely will be like, ‘No, that’s not going to happen.’
Like there’s been a lot of times I’m in the office and I’m like, ‘Hey, Tony, let’s do this.’ He’s like, ‘No, we’re not doing that. We’re just… no.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, you got it, boss.'”
She even shared one of the more unusual pitches she’s repeatedly made to Khan over the years, revealing that she’s been trying to convince him to let her get hit by a car in a storyline—an idea he has consistently rejected.
“Get hit by a car for, like, four years. Yeah. He’s like… he won’t let me get hit by a car. He’s like, ‘No, we’re not going to hit you with a car.’ I’m like, ‘It would be great. It would be so good. Like, I can do it. I’ve done it in film. Like, let me… let me get hit by a car.’ He’s like, ‘No.'”
Rose still hasn’t returned to regular AEW television, but her comments make one thing clear: she doesn’t believe Tony Khan is the person fans should be blaming for her absence. Even after publicly admitting how frustrating the situation has been, she’s standing by her belief that there’s more going on behind the scenes than fans realize.
