Nyla Rose has spent a long time watching AEW’s women’s division move forward without her. She can be happy for the women getting those opportunities, but she’s also reached the point where she wants to know when AEW is going to call her number again.
While speaking with Denise Salcedo, Rose was asked about barely appearing on AEW television despite being such a major part of the company’s original women’s division. Rose didn’t try to dress up how that feels.
“It is. It is a little hard. It is a little frustrating.”
The former AEW Women’s World Champion knows there are only so many spots available. That doesn’t stop her from wanting one of them. Rose isn’t frustrated because other women are succeeding. She simply wants the chance to do something herself instead of continuing to watch from the outside.
“You know, in this business, you do have to be a little bit selfish to a degree, right? You can be selfish while being selfless. And this, I think, is one of those moments. I want more for myself. I want to do more. I want to entertain you guys more in a multitude of ways. So it is a little frustrating when things like that happen.”
There is plenty happening in the division that Rose enjoys watching. She pointed to Mercedes Moné becoming AEW Women’s Champion and beginning to butt heads with Thekla, while also mentioning Willow Nightingale’s journey.
“But there are amazing things happening. There are great things happening. So being able to kind of sit back and see these things, see, like, Mercedes actually rise to the top and win the AEW Women’s Championship, and now she’s starting to butt heads with Thekla. Like, things like this. Willow’s whole journey, like things like that.”
Eventually, though, watching everyone else have their moment leaves Rose with one pretty obvious question: “It’s like, okay, you know, we can sit back and enjoy this as well, but damn it, when’s my turn?”
That question carries a little more weight considering Rose hasn’t wrestled on AEW television since Rampage in November 2024. She has continued wrestling elsewhere, but her absence from the company that once made her Women’s World Champion has stretched on. Previous reports also indicated that some people within AEW weren’t sure why Rose had been kept off television for so long.
Rose has certainly remained visible outside the ring. In August, she shut down a transphobic fan who targeted her appearance and mocked the person for hiding behind an anime profile picture while throwing insults at her.
Her latest comments show that the bigger thing on her mind is getting back to work. Rose can cheer for Mercedes, Thekla and Willow while still wanting something for herself, and after all this time away, she isn’t hiding the frustration anymore.
