Nikki Bella has heard the “Backstabber Bella” talk, and she’s not letting that one slide.
The WWE Hall of Famer fired back on August 22 after getting dragged into another round of online shots connected to Paige, making it clear she wasn’t ducking anybody — she was just too busy enjoying her spa day to care.
The latest back-and-forth started ahead of the August 21 episode of SmackDown. After the Nikki & Brie account posted about Paige and wondered whether she would even make television that night, Paige jumped into the conversation and questioned why Nikki wasn’t there herself.
“Why aren’t you here???”
Nikki didn’t answer Paige right away. She waited until the following day, when she addressed the idea that she had turned into “Backstabber Bella.”
“I’m over here trying to enjoy my spa day and I’m being called backstabber Bella? lol Ummm no and wasn’t running @Saraya just too busy to care.”
That was the real shot. Nikki wasn’t buying the idea that her absence meant she was avoiding Paige, and she made sure to shut that down while throwing a little attitude back in Paige’s direction. She wasn’t finished either. After watching SmackDown, Nikki joked that she needed another drink before delivering a sarcastic congratulations to Paige for actually getting television time.
“Goodness I need another Aperol Spritz after watching last night. Oh and Paige congrats on getting back on TV last night.”
That line hits harder considering what happened one week earlier. Paige had a planned promo aimed at Nikki cut from the August 14 episode of SmackDown. WWE eventually released the segment online, where Paige accused Nikki of rewriting history, taking credit for revitalizing her career and being jealous that somebody else had taken her spot.
Nikki has already made it clear she isn’t going to sit around and let television time dictate whether this story keeps moving. Speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show after Paige’s segment was cut, Nikki revealed that she had already started thinking about ways to keep the feud alive online if WWE continued chopping material from SmackDown.
“At this point, I have so many ideas. If it just turns into an online story, why not?”
She even admitted the situation reminded her of dealing with WWE creative headaches years ago, when segments could change or disappear at the last minute.
“I was just brainstorming yesterday, preparing. It kind of brought me back a decade ago, and I was preparing for, okay, I need to be prepared for these things now that might get cut, whatever.”
Now Nikki is getting labeled “Backstabber Bella,” Paige is questioning why she isn’t showing up, and Nikki is firing right back while telling everybody she wasn’t running from anyone.
Whether WWE planned for the social media war to become this big a part of the story or not, Nikki and Paige are keeping the feud alive without needing a microphone in the ring. And judging by Nikki’s response, calling her a backstabber may have just given her even more ammunition.
