The July 24 episode of WWE SmackDown went down in the Oakland Arena in Oakland, California. This was an important episode for the blue brand, and they kicked things off with a big segment.
WWE has former wrestlers all over the place backstage. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis knows his way around a ring, and he’s not retired anymore.
Nick Aldis did screw GUNTHER out of a title, and things only went up to 11 from there. Eventually, a match was booked between the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion and the Ring General.
This week’s SmackDown opened up with a contract signing between Nick Aldis and GUNTHER. WWE RAW General Manager made it clear that Nick Aldis can’t be a WWE Superstar and an authority figure. He made it clear that as soon as Nick signs the contract, then he’s giving up his GM duties so Pearce will take on both shows.
After the parameters of the contract were laid out, including a hold harmless agreement for Nick Aldis, it was agreed upon. Aldis said that he had a breaking point, and that was reached. Then he signed the contract to relinquish his GM responsibilities to get this match with GUNTHER.
After that, GUTHER told Nick Aldis that he stopped him from getting a SummerSlam match with a title on the line. So, he took this match. He also threw shade at Nick Aldis’ NWA World Heavyweight Championship reign, because he always wanted to be a Superstar instead.
We will have to see if Nick Aldis returns to his General Manager duties after SummerSlam. GUNTHER promised to turn Aldis into a legend, because he will join a very important list like Goldberg, AJ Styles and John Cena, as he ended their careers as well.
They exchanged a few more words after that and then things got physical. In the end, GUTHER sent Nick Aldis through the table that they signed the SummerSlam contract on. This match could be an intense one in August.
