New Level and Swerve Strickland are already 1-0 as defending AEW World Trios Champions. Kofi Kingston, Austin Creed and Strickland defeated The Rascalz during the September 2 episode of AEW Dynamite to successfully complete their first title defense.
The trio entered the match just days after winning the AEW World Trios Championship in the Trios Roulette match at AEW All In: London. Their first challengers were Zachary Wentz, Myron Reed and Dezmond Xavier.
Strickland started the match against Reed and quickly took control with a headscissors. Reed tried to fight back with a springboard crossbody, but Strickland caught him and slammed him into the turnbuckle. Xavier tagged into the match, which brought Creed in for his Dynamite in-ring debut. Creed trapped Xavier in a bow-and-arrow hold before the two traded counters and kicks.
Creed eventually took Xavier down and tagged in Kingston. New Level immediately showed off its years of experience by hitting Xavier with double-team offense. Wentz entered the match but received the same treatment, leading to a near fall for the champions.
The Rascalz eventually isolated Strickland and took control with a triple-team attack in the corner. Strickland survived the assault, but The Rascalz continued throwing combinations at him and came close to taking the championships before Kingston broke up the pin. The match then broke down with all six wrestlers getting involved. Kingston sent Xavier to the floor but was wiped out by a tornillo from Wentz.
Creed followed with a dive onto Wentz before launching himself onto Wentz and Xavier. Reed answered by catching Strickland with a cutter from the apron and sending Creed to the floor with a headscissors. Reed brought Kingston back into the ring, but Kofi shoved him into the corner and connected with Trouble in Paradise, sending Reed crashing into the turnbuckle.
Xavier attempted to keep The Rascalz alive, but the champions removed him from the ring. Strickland then tagged back into the match and drilled Reed with the House Call to score the three-count.
The victory gave New Level and Strickland their first successful AEW World Trios Championship defense only days after forming their new alliance at Wembley Stadium. The Rascalz pushed them into a fight, but the champions survived the chaos and proved their All In victory wasn’t a one-night fluke.
With their first defense now behind them, New Level and Swerve Strickland can turn their attention toward whoever wants the next shot at their AEW World Trios Championship.
