Mick Foley may be making a lot less money these days, but don’t expect him to second-guess his decision to leave WWE. Several months after walking away from his Legends deal, Foley says he’d do it all over again—even knowing what it has cost him financially.
While speaking on The Mick and Kenny Show, Foley looked back on the decision to end his longtime relationship with WWE. He first pointed out that he hadn’t actually been working for the company full-time for years, explaining that his connection was limited to a Legends merchandising deal and occasional appearances.
“Well, here’s the thing, Kenny. I hadn’t actually worked for them in nine years, right? I had a Legends deal, you know, and I signed cards and occasionally did an appearance.”
Foley then explained why he ultimately decided to move on. He reiterated that he wasn’t comfortable with the direction he felt WWE was taking and cited the company’s relationship with the current U.S. president, along with remarks from the president that he personally found unacceptable.
“And they were just, uh, going in a direction. And I mean, people know I wasn’t comfortable with their… I don’t… this isn’t a politically motivated show at all, but I just thought they were a little too cozy with our current president. And he was saying some things that I could not abide by and, uh, so I just, um, told WWE I would be parting ways with them.”
Even so, the Hardcore Legend made it clear that leaving the company didn’t erase everything he enjoyed about his WWE career: “But I love my time. I really enjoyed my time with them.” The conversation then turned to whether he still feels good about making that decision now that he’s had time to live with it. Foley admitted he’s earning far less than he did under his WWE Legends deal, but said that hasn’t changed his mind in the slightest.
“I’ve never regretted it, Kenny. I realized when I was at WrestleCon in Las Vegas that I had to work about 20 hours to make what I would have made in four hours with WWE, and I’m okay with that. So, yeah, it was a decision.”
Foley first announced the end of his 30-year merchandising relationship with WWE in July, thanking the company for decades of support while revealing he was looking ahead to new opportunities, including working with AEW. Although the financial difference has been pretty big, his latest comments make it clear he’s still at peace with the choice he made.
