Michael Chandler might have walked into NXT wearing a referee shirt, but WWE could have something a hell of a lot more physical in mind for him. After getting right in the middle of the madness this week, the UFC star is being talked about for an actual WWE match.

According to False Finish, there have been discussions about possibly letting Chandler step into the ring as a competitor. Nothing is locked in yet, and there’s no word on an opponent or when WWE could potentially pull the trigger.

The timing certainly makes things interesting. Chandler showed up on the November 4 edition of NXT as the special guest referee for the unsanctioned match between Dion Lennox and Cruz Montana, and WWE didn’t exactly give him an easy night.

With weapons flying around and the match spilling all over ringside, Chandler eventually had to get involved himself. When Montana exposed the concrete and tried to powerbomb Lennox onto it, Chandler stepped in and stopped him, which gave Lennox the opening to fight his way out.

Chandler also tried to keep Lennox from using handcuffs before the whole thing completely went off the rails. DarkState hit the ring, 946 showed up after the lights went out, Royce Keys sent Cutler James through the announce table, and Montana eventually put Lennox through another table before finishing him with Spin the Block.

Chandler certainly wouldn’t need much explaining if WWE decides to have him wrestlte. He already knows how to fight, he’s now gotten his feet wet on WWE television, and apparently somebody behind the scenes is at least wondering what happens if they stop making him enforce the rules and just let him throw hands.

Who should Michael Chandler fight if WWE actually puts him in a match? Let us know what you think in the comments.
