Danhausen’s mainstream crossover push is getting bigger by the week — and now Matt Hardy is defending WWE’s handling of the breakout star amid growing discussion about whether the company is using him too much.
While speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy was asked whether WWE is going too hard with Danhausen now that he is appearing across WWE TV, ESPN, and other crossover platforms. Hardy said WWE should take advantage of the momentum while it is hot.
“You’ve got to get it while it’s hot, man. So yeah—it’s okay, especially with the crossover stuff. That’s exactly what you want a character like that to do, especially someone who is so gimmicky like Danhausen. And I’m super happy for him that he’s succeeding so much.”
Hardy said the key is not forcing Danhausen into too many matches. Instead, he believes WWE should treat him as an attraction and use his character in special moments.
“I mean, who knows how long his run is, but the most important thing is that they’re not burning him out in the ring—forcing him to wrestle over and over. He’s an attraction. He’s a novelty, and you use him as such.”
Hardy then compared Danhausen’s current WWE usage to what he and Bray Wyatt wanted during their own run as The Eater of Worlds. According to Hardy, they wanted to be used more as special attractions, but Vince McMahon kept putting them in matches because he saw them as major TV stars.
“Myself and Bray Wyatt, we were fighting to be used more like novelties and do stuff like Danhausen is doing now when we were the Eater of Worlds. But Vince McMahon was like, ‘You guys are both big stars—I need you on TV. Go wrestle. Go wrestle. Go wrestle.’”
Hardy closed by saying WWE has nailed Danhausen’s presentation so far, pointing to his rising visibility and growing value as proof that the current approach is working.
“And honestly, they’ve nailed Danhausen right now. The way he’s become a big star and got everybody talking—his stock is rising, his equity is growing every single week, and they’re doing the right thing.”
The comments come after Danhausen officially signed with Adventure Media for management representation across film, television, digital media, publishing, and additional business opportunities. Since debuting at Elimination Chamber, he has become one of WWE’s top merchandise sellers, appeared at WrestleMania, and crossed over into ESPN programming with his “curse” gimmick.
Danhausen’s rise has been fast, but Hardy believes WWE is making the right call by leaning into what makes him different instead of treating him like a standard weekly wrestler. As long as the company keeps him special and does not run the act into the ground inside the ring, Hardy sees no problem with using the momentum while it is there.
