Matt Hardy is not backing down from the Broken Universe, and he is putting a monster-sized promise on what’s coming next for The Hardys in TNA Wrestling.
During a new interview with Soundsphere Magazine, Matt was asked about critics who think dark and supernatural gimmicks do not work in pro wrestling anymore, especially in 2026. Hardy shut that idea down fast, making it clear that wrestling has never been just about pretending it is a real sports contest. To him, the whole point is creating characters people care about. Matt explained that pro wrestling is entertainment, and the wrestlers who last are the ones who get fans emotionally invested.
“I mean, I obviously disagree because at the end of the day, wrestling is entertainment. We are telling a story. We want to create compelling characters. That’s what we do. And it totally works for me. I mean, wrestling is something we are in control of. A lot of people are critical of it, but once again, wrestling is not your typical sports. We are not out here having a legitimate contest in a football game, you know, or soccer or basketball or baseball, whatever it may be.”
Hardy then pointed to his own career as proof. The Broken Matt Hardy and Brother Nero characters did not just give fans something wild to talk about. They gave The Hardys a whole new life when their careers could have easily been treated like nostalgia acts.
“You know, pro wrestling is entertainment. And the pro wrestlers who are the most successful will have created characters that people actually care about, they’re emotionally invested in. And if you can connect to something that people can connect to, then that is where you become successful. And you know, us becoming Broken Matt and Brother Nero totally rejuvenated our career, you know, and it gave us it strengthened our run as we went forward and gave us other characters that we could play with and go back to.”
That is where The Righteous come in. Matt praised the team and said their weird, cult-like presentation lines up perfectly with The Broken Hardys. He said they have a strange energy that feels magical, supernatural, and trippy enough to belong inside the Broken Universe.
“And honestly, I’m going to tell you the truth, we’re at the point with The Righteous, who we love, I think are very talented, great performers as well. And they fit well with The Broken Hardys because if you’re watching them, they almost seem like guys you know that you’re on acid trip. They’re very cultish. They have these qualities that seem magical or supernatural to a degree.”
Then Matt went all in. He did not just say the match will be good. He claimed Broken Hardys vs. The Righteous will go down as the best cinematic match pro wrestling has ever seen.
“And I think when it’s all said and done, the greatest cinematic match that has ever happened in pro wrestling is going to be the Broken Hardys versus The Righteous. And when it’s all said and done, I think this match is going to be a gateway that’s going to help us reinvent our characters and become something the most entertaining version of the Hardys that you ever have seen.”
That is a massive claim, especially with The Hardys already tied to some of the most famous cinematic-style wrestling moments ever. Matt clearly believes this feud with The Righteous is not just another chapter. He sees it as a reset button for The Hardys, one that could push Broken Matt, Brother Nero, and Willow into a new version fans have not seen before.
The Hardys are still finding ways to keep their act alive decades into the game, and Matt Hardy sounds confident that The Righteous are the perfect opponents to help unlock whatever comes next.
