Ludwig Kaiser’s legal team is now arguing that restricting the WWE star’s travel could directly affect his ability to stay employed, according to newly obtained court documents tied to his Florida battery case.
A motion obtained by Ringside News reveals Kaiser — whose real name is Marcel Barthel — is seeking permission for out-of-state and international travel while the misdemeanor battery case continues in Orange County, Florida. In the filing, Barthel’s attorney argues that travel is critical to his profession as a WWE performer. The motion states:
“Mr. Barthel is an international performer who is required to travel throughout the United States and around the world to remain employed.”
The filing also confirms Barthel’s primary residence is the downtown Orlando apartment complex where the alleged incident tied to the case took place.
Ringside News previously obtained court records showing Barthel turned himself in on May 20 after learning an active arrest warrant had been issued against him. He was later released after posting $1,000 bond.
The underlying case stems from an alleged incident police say took place on April 23 at the Paramount on Lake Eola Apartments in Orlando. Investigators previously stated probable cause was established after witness statements, visible injuries, surveillance footage, and a photo lineup identification.
Barthel has since entered a written plea of not guilty while his legal team also filed discovery motions seeking access to evidence tied to the investigation.
The newest filing puts WWE directly into the conversation because the motion makes clear Barthel’s ability to travel is tied to his ability to continue working. WWE talent are regularly required to travel across the country and internationally for television tapings, premium live events, media appearances, and overseas tours.
Kaiser has remained active on WWE programming under the masked El Grande Americano character while the legal process continues behind the scenes. WWE has not publicly commented on the situation as of this writing.
With the case still active and more court proceedings expected, attention will likely shift toward whether the court grants the request and whether WWE alters his television status moving forward.
Do you think WWE should continue using Ludwig Kaiser normally while the case continues, or should the company step back until the legal process is resolved? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback in the comments.
