Kevin Owens sees plenty of talent coming through NXT, but if anyone asks him which side of the roster is standing out right now, his answer isn’t particularly close. The women are “whipping the dude’s asses.”
While speaking to FACES Magazine, Owens was asked which NXT wrestlers fans should keep an eye on when the brand tours Canada in October. Instead of picking one name, he immediately backed up what Grayson Waller recently said about the state of the roster.
“It’s very hard to nail one down, and you know, I’m going to echo what Grayson Waller said on NXT a few weeks ago. There’s a lot of very talented people in NXT, but the women of NXT are kind of whipping the dude’s asses right now as far as in-ring work and performance.”
Waller made that argument during his surprise appearance on the July 28 episode of NXT, where he called out the ambition on the men’s side and claimed the women were outworking them. Owens apparently sees the same thing. He acknowledged that there are several men worth watching, but he believes fans attending NXT’s upcoming Canadian shows will leave talking about the women.
“So I don’t want to just single out one, but there’s a few guys to keep an eye on for sure. I think the people that go see that NXT show, what they’ll walk away from talking about is going to be the women on the show because they’re all pretty excellent.”
For Owens, that also says plenty about what WWE could have waiting for it over the next several years.
“The future is bright for the women’s division in WWE when you see the girls that are in NXT and their work.”
Owens isn’t writing off NXT’s men or claiming there isn’t talent there. But when it comes to who is delivering the better in-ring work and performances right now, he agrees with Waller—the women have them beat.
