Kevin Owens is staying close to wrestling while recovering from injury, but he made it clear that being away from the ring hasn’t been easy.
Owens is joining the coaching cast of WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats) for season three, which premieres Sunday, April 26 on A&E. He and Natalya are stepping in as coaches, replacing The Undertaker and Mickie James on the show.
In a preview clip for the new season, Owens spoke about how difficult it has been staying away from the ring while recovering from neck surgery. At the time of filming, he said he had already been out of action for several months and was struggling with the downtime. He explained that wrestling has been his entire life, which makes being sidelined even harder to deal with.
“I’ve been wrestling for 25 years. Ultimately, for me, I just want to help the next generation.”
Owens continued by saying that wrestling is all he’s ever known, and stepping away from it — even temporarily — has been frustrating.
“And also, I don’t really know what I’d do with myself if it didn’t. This is just all I’ve done since I was 15. This is what I love, this is what I’ve always loved.”
He then opened up about how tough the injury layoff has been mentally, admitting that the long break from action has been getting to him.
“Right now, I’ve been off for 8-9 months because of my neck surgery. I’m losing my mind. Like, I just want to be around it.”
Owens underwent neck surgery in July 2025 and still does not have a confirmed return date. His last match took place against Sami Zayn at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025, which means he has now been out of the ring for well over a year.
While he continues to recover, Owens has stayed active behind the scenes. Last November, he shared video of himself doing cardio at the WWE Performance Center, signaling that he’s still working toward getting cleared to compete again.
Season three of WWE LFG premieres Sunday at 10 p.m. Eastern on A&E. The coaching lineup also includes Booker T and Bubba Ray Dudley, with the show focusing on WWE Performance Center recruits trying to earn opportunities in WWE NXT.
Owens may not have a return date yet, but staying involved through WWE LFG is giving him a way to stay connected to wrestling while he waits for medical clearance.
