Kevin Owens is officially coming for the Undisputed WWE Championship. That doesn’t mean he’s ready to start talking about CM Punk.
Fresh off his shocking SummerSlam return and No. 1 Contender’s Match victory, Owens was asked about the long-awaited possibility of finally stepping into the ring with Punk on WWE Now. Instead of hyping up the match, though, Owens immediately threw the question right back at Sam Roberts, making it clear
“You go ask him that first… and then we’ll talk. Let’s see what he says to that.”
The exchange came just hours after Owens made his surprise return at SummerSlam following a 17-month absence. What started as a No. 1 Contender’s Match between Sami Zayn and Finn Bálor quickly turned into chaos when Nick Aldis inserted GUNTHER into the bout before unveiling one final surprise—Owens himself.
The Minneapolis crowd erupted as the former Universal Champion walked back into a WWE ring for the first time since undergoing neck surgery, and he wasted no time reminding everyone what they’d been missing. Owens fought through the four-way, dropped Sami Zayn with a Stunner and punched his ticket to an Undisputed WWE Championship match.
It’s a match that has been talked about for years but has never actually happened. Now, it’s closer than ever. Owens isn’t giving much away just yet, but his response makes one thing clear: Before he talks about CM Punk…he wants to know what the Second City Saint has to say about him.
