Kenny Omega walked away from Wembley Stadium without the AEW World Championship, but he doesn’t sound like someone who’s ready to close the book on his career.
Speaking on ShidaTube, Kenny Omega reflected on his bout with Will Ospreay at AEW All In and gave fans an honest update on how he’s feeling after one of the biggest matches of the year. Looking back on the match, Omega admitted it pushed him further than almost anything else he’s ever done in wrestling. He also acknowledged something that’s becoming harder to ignore as his career goes on.
“It may have been the hardest match of my career. Of course, I’m getting older. So my strength is gradually going away. I’m getting weaker.”
Despite the result, Omega said he has no regrets about what happened in front of the Wembley crowd. He explained that he emptied the tank that night and left everything he had in the ring, even if it wasn’t enough to beat Ospreay.
“I lost in front of about 50,000 people, but I really gave everything I had. I gave it everything and did my absolute best.”
The physical damage from the match was still easy to see during the interview. Even so, Omega said he has already made peace with the loss and remains proud of what he accomplished on one of wrestling’s biggest stages.
“I’m still very proud of the performance. Yes, you see the damage, but my heart is already… it’s already healed.”
Omega also made sure to praise the man who beat him. Rather than focusing on the disappointment of losing the AEW World Championship match, he said he couldn’t be happier for Will Ospreay and what he accomplished at Wembley.
“I couldn’t be more proud of my performance at Wembley. I couldn’t be more proud of our champion, Will Ospreay.”
Omega left fans with one final message. He hopes Wembley will be remembered as one of the highlights of his career, but he also made it clear he isn’t looking at it as the final chapter.
“I hope that everyone has a great memory of what will be a great memory for me. Wembley Stadium, oh my God. But it’s not the end. Please support me next time, too!”
Omega has spent the past few years battling injuries, surgeries and constant questions about how much he has left. If his latest comments are any indication, though, he’s already looking beyond Wembley and toward whatever comes next.
