John Cena may have just given away part of his big WWE RAW announcement before the show even starts. Hours before his November 2 return, Cena posted a new image on Instagram promoting “The Classic,” and the artwork could contain a clue about where his upcoming WWE event will take place.
The image features the words “THE CLASSIC” in massive letters over the New York City skyline. Cena didn’t include any explanation, but the timing is interesting considering he’s scheduled to appear on RAW at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to reveal details about the John Cena Classic.
The New York City background immediately raises questions about whether Cena is teasing the location of the event. It’s also possible the image is simply promotional artwork, but dropping it just hours before his announcement certainly gives people something to talk about. Cena had already promised to end the speculation during his November 2 RAW appearance. On October 27, he took to Twitter to make it clear that WWE viewers would finally get answers about the tournament.
“Make sure not to miss #WWERaw next week. SPECIAL START TIME OF 6PM EST! The wait is over, the speculation ends 11/2. Let’s build this ‘Never Seen’ CLASSIC! OUR time is NOW!”
The Instagram post also comes amid questions about when WWE plans to hold the John Cena Classic. Dave Meltzer recently suggested December 19 as the most likely date, which would put the event directly against AEW Worlds End. WWE’s December schedule is already crowded, with NXT TLC and Wrestlepalooza both scheduled for December 12. Meltzer believes that leaves December 19 as a strong possibility, although December 5 hasn’t been ruled out.
“To me, that puts 12/19 as the favorite for the Cena Classic, which would put it head-up against AEW Worlds End. But I suspect that gets announced tomorrow.”
For now, Cena’s Instagram post doesn’t confirm a date or venue. However, the New York City artwork has added another question to an announcement that was already supposed to clear everything up. Cena told everyone to tune in to RAW for answers, then went ahead and posted a graphic for The Classic before the show. Whether that New York skyline is an actual clue or just part of the presentation remains to be seen, but Cena has already given people another reason to pay attention to what he says in Brooklyn.
