Kelani Jordan is set to defend her NXT Women’s Championship in an open challenge on the November 4 episode of WWE NXT, and IYO SKY has emerged as a possible opponent. WWE is keeping the challenger’s identity under wraps, but with several major main roster stars already booked for Wednesday’s show, SKY could be another big addition to the lineup.
Jordan is fresh off her victory over Wren Sinclair at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 31, where she retained her championship after using the ropes for leverage during the pinfall. She’s now preparing for another title defense just four days later, although WWE has yet to announce who she’ll be facing.
During the November 2 edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez brought up Jordan’s open challenge while reviewing Halloween Havoc. He suggested that SKY could be the mystery opponent WWE has planned for Wednesday.
“Well, what else to say is Kalani’s getting a mystery opponent on Wednesday. Probably will be Iyo Sky.”
Dave Meltzer agreed that SKY was a strong possibility, pointing to developments from last week’s Monday Night Raw as a potential clue. He also suggested WWE could follow up with another angle before Wednesday’s NXT broadcast.
“Yeah, I thought it. Yeah, they’ll probably do an angle tomorrow. Yeah, good chance it’s EO because they did the thing on Raw last week, you know, loads up the show even more.”
The speculation comes as WWE prepares for a direct ratings battle with AEW Blood & Guts. Wednesday’s NXT has already been loaded with major names, including John Cena, CM Punk, and Cody Rhodes. Punk is also scheduled to challenge Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship, giving the show another major title match. Meltzer explained that WWE understood the importance of bringing in established stars for the special episode, especially with AEW presenting one of its biggest television events on the same night.
“I mean, I give them. I give them credit. You know, it’s like the Nikon says, you got to load up the show. And, I mean, they loaded up the show that they are. They didn’t. You know, they knew the odds were. I mean, if. If they didn’t load up the show, they’d have gotten killed.”
SKY would give WWE another major name for the show while putting Jordan against a former WWE Women’s Champion. It would also be a significant challenge for Jordan, who has little time to prepare for her next title defense after Halloween Havoc.
