John Cena isn’t pretending he knows what happens next for Peacemaker, but he definitely wants back in the helmet.
Peacemaker Season 2 wrapped up back in October 2025 with a wild finale titled “Full Nelson,” and the ending left Chris Smith in a brutal spot. After ARGUS got control of the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, Rick Flag Sr. dumped Peacemaker on Salvation, the prison planet pulled straight from DC Comics, as payback for what happened to his son.
That cliffhanger left fans wondering whether Cena’s Peacemaker will return in the DCU, and Cena finally addressed that question while speaking to ComicBook. Cena made it clear that he is not the one calling the shots. According to him, anything he says about Peacemaker’s future would only be his own guess because James Gunn is the person steering the DCU.
“Oh my goodness. So, anything I would give you would just be personal speculation and not on the bull’s-eye of the actual DCU. That is a James Gunn question for sure. He has every idea between his ears and I have full faith and trust in him.”
Cena also made it clear he is not taking anything for granted. Whether Peacemaker comes back or not, he said that decision is out of his hands. Still, Cena sounds more than ready to return if Gunn gives him the call. He said he is grateful for the experience, especially because Gunn helped him grow as a performer.
“Whether we ever hear from Peacemaker again or not is not up to me. “So, what I can control is my gratitude for working with James Gunn, for him making me a better performer, for moments like Little Brother. And man, I hope I get the helmet pretty soon. I’d love to dance another time.”
That is a pretty big tease, even if Cena is making sure not to promise anything. Season 2 ended with Peacemaker trapped on Salvation, Checkmate unaware of where he is, and ARGUS holding the keys to the whole mess. So if the DCU does bring him back, there is already a major story waiting to be picked up.
At the end of the day, Cena is leaving the future of Peacemaker where it belongs: with James Gunn. But he made one thing very clear — he is thankful for the ride, he trusts Gunn completely, and he absolutely wants another shot at the helmet.
