Je’Von Evans isn’t running cover for the NXT men’s division after Grayson Waller tore into the locker room on the July 28 episode of WWE NXT. Evans was asked about Waller’s comments during an interview with The Wrestling Classic, and instead of pushing back, he basically said Waller had a point.
Waller made an unadvertised appearance on NXT and cut a promo that blurred the line between storyline and reality. During the segment, he claimed only around 10 percent of the roster was ready for a main roster call-up and said that group came from the NXT women’s division. That was a direct shot at the men’s side of the roster, and Evans was asked whether he agreed with it. He did.
Evans said Waller was being honest and admitted the NXT women’s division is operating at a different level right now. He also made it clear he hopes the comments force the men’s roster to step things up.
“Oh, I mean, he was being real. He’s being honest, you feel me? I feel like the roster, they’re trying to do their thing, but the women are going crazy right now, especially in NXT, you feel me? So, I feel like—I really hope that woke up the men’s roster, because if it didn’t, then Grayson’s going to have to take over and become champion. Nobody really wants that.”
The last line was clearly delivered with some humor, but Evans’ overall point wasn’t hard to understand. He believes Waller’s criticism had some truth behind it, and he wants the NXT men’s division to use it as motivation instead of brushing it off.
That also makes Evans’ response more interesting considering he knows the NXT system firsthand. Rather than defending his former locker room, he gave credit to the women’s division and openly said the men need to wake up. Waller may have been playing up his character when he made the comments, but Evans clearly doesn’t think the entire message should be dismissed as television talk.
