JC Mateo’s WWE run is already over, but his next move might not take long to materialize as AEW could be his next destination.
After reports noted that the former Jeff Cobb parted ways with WWE, attention has quickly shifted to what comes next. And according to new comments from WrestleVotes during a Q&A session, there’s already at least one company that could be watching closely. When asked about Cobb’s future following his departure, WrestleVotes pointed directly at AEW — and specifically referenced his history there under his previous name, Jeff Cobb.
“AEW would have interest in Jeff Cobb. He’s worked there before and remains friendly with a lot of their talent.”
That context matters. Before signing with WWE, Mateo built a strong reputation internationally as Jeff Cobb, including a stint in All Elite Wrestling between 2020 and 2022. During that time, he appeared as an enforcer for Chris Jericho during his feud with Jon Moxley, and later resurfaced as part of NJPW’s crossover appearances in AEW programming.
Despite that connection, Cobb previously turned down an AEW deal in favor of continuing his run with New Japan — a decision that ultimately led him toward WWE. Now, with his WWE run ending after less than a year — including time with Solo Sikoa’s MFT faction — the door could be open again.
Bottom line: Mateo is already gone from WWE, but he might not be off the radar for long. With prior AEW ties and relationships still in place, this could move quickly if interest turns into something more concrete.
Do you think AEW should bring Jeff Cobb back after his WWE run, or would another path make more sense for him right now? Let us know your thoughts.
