Jade Cargill could’ve had a completely different wrestling name—but she ultimately stuck with the one she was born with.

Speaking on the Open Thoughts podcast, Cargill revealed that using her real name wasn’t the original plan. Like many wrestlers, she initially wanted to create an alter ego and even spent time trying to come up with something new.

As she explained, the idea of having a different persona was something she seriously considered early on. She admitted she did try to come up with a nickname, knowing how common that is in wrestling.

“That’s my real name. I’m one of the rare ones that have my real name. I did. I was trying—because you need that alter ego.”

Cargill then shared how far she went in that process, even involving other wrestlers—including Chris Jericho—in a late-night brainstorming session. According to Cargill, Jericho even offered to come up with a name for her—but nothing stuck.

“So I stayed up till like 4 a.m. with Chris Jericho and a couple other wrestlers. We couldn’t figure it out. And he was like, ‘I’m great at giving people names—I can give you a name.’”

After more than a year of trying to find the right fit, she finally came to a realization—and Jericho helped reinforce it. That decision ended up being the simplest one—and the right one.

“It took me over a year to settle on the fact that I should use my name. And he was like, ‘No, maybe you should use Jade.’ And I think it works perfectly—Jade Cargill. It just flows.”

Bottom line: sometimes the best character is the real one. After trying to create something new, Jade Cargill realized her own name already had the presence she was looking for—and ran with it.
