Nick Aldis’ return to the ring may not end at SummerSlam after all.
Although WWE currently views his upcoming match against GUNTHER as a one-off appearance, WrestleVotes reports that one incredible performance could completely change those plans.
Speaking during a recent Q&A session, JoeyVotes explained that nothing beyond SummerSlam is currently scheduled for Aldis. At the same time, he made it clear that WWE isn’t ruling anything out if the former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion delivers in one of the biggest matches of the weekend.
Rather than closing the book on Aldis’ in-ring career after SummerSlam, Joey suggested the match could become the beginning of something bigger—provided the reaction is there.
“It depends on the performance, the reaction, and how he feels about doing it. So if he walks in there and steals the show, it’s hard to say we’re not gonna do it again. If he hits a home run, he could go on a little run.”
TC shared a similar view, stressing that the current expectation is still for this to be a one-time program rather than the start of a full-time comeback. That said, the door won’t necessarily close once the match is over.
“This opportunity is a one-and-done, but it’s not gonna close the door forever. So it’s not the start of a main roster run. It won’t mean he won’t be the GM of SmackDown. This particular program is a one-and-done, but it could open itself to additional opportunities down the road.”
The discussion comes only days after Aldis’ rivalry with GUNTHER turned physical during WWE’s SummerSlam Kickoff event. After weeks of tension following Saturday Night’s Main Event, the two finally came to blows in a wild brawl that left Aldis bloodied before he fought back, prompting Triple H to make their SummerSlam match official.
For now, WWE still expects Aldis to return to his role as SmackDown General Manager once the rivalry with GUNTHER is over. If he walks into SummerSlam and exceeds expectations, however, what was originally planned as a one-night return may not stay that way for very long.
